Zechariah 8:20-23
Thus says the LORD of hosts:There shall yet come peoples,
the inhabitants of many cities;
and the inhabitants of one city shall approach those of another,
and say, "Come! let us go to implore the favor of the LORD";
and, "I too will go to seek the LORD."
Many peoples and strong nations shall come
to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem
and to implore the favor of the LORD.
Thus says the LORD of hosts:
In those days ten men of every nationality,
speaking different tongues, shall take hold,
yes, take hold of every Jew by the edge of his garment and say,
"Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."
The world can really beat you down sometimes, so much that you don't know where to go or what to do. That's when a good wing man come in handy. A faith life can be much the same. I myself have tried for years to take care of my own faith life with out any outside interference. It is a daunting task because evil is at every corner, but know this, we are call called to commune with God. I imagine Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz, would she have made it back home with out the help of the Lion, Scarecrow and the Tin Man? I don't think so. Yes, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit is always with you, but God is no fool. He gave us each other because he knew we would need each other to navigate this world. So in reference to your faith life, get yourself a wing man. Someone that not only will help you on your low days, but someone that you will help as well. God is love, and that is what love is all about.
Luke 9:51-56
When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled,he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem,
and he sent messengers ahead of him.
On the way they entered a Samaritan village
to prepare for his reception there,
but they would not welcome him
because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem.
When the disciples James and John saw this they asked,
"Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven
to consume them?"
Jesus turned and rebuked them,
and they journeyed to another village.
Let's be honest, if you decide to make God and particularly Jesus your life, not a part of your life, but your life, then you will meet those that will not help you and will even at times go out of their way to stop you. As we see here, Jesus is on a mission, he to has been called to Jerusalem and he does not stop. He doesn't stop when the Samaritans decide to not welcome him. It is easy in our culture to shy away from goals or tasks when others do not approve. Our culture is based on fitting in. Jesus' way is radical though. You are called to God. He is your home. You deserved to be loved and appreciated don't let anyone stop you from what you are called to. As Christians we are called to community to help each other get home to Jesus, to love and to bring as many people along with you on the way. What is stopping you. I pray nothing.
